Slow Satisfaction (Struck by Lightning #3/3) by Cecilia Tan

 ** For Mature Audiences Only**

Slow Satisfaction (Struck by Lightning, #3)
James has finally pushed Karina beyond her limit--not her limit for kinky sex play, but for his extreme secrecy. She has had enough and breaks things off. But James won't give up on Karina and will do whatever it takes to get her back. He's ready to share his deepest, darkest secrets, but is Karina ready to hear them?

James offers Karina not only the truth but a place at his side... onstage. He wants Karina to star in his final musical production and enter his life and his world fully and completely. As the two work together, they rekindle the trust and love they'd lost. But James's world is full of deceit. When he is blackmailed by an unscrupulous music industry executive, James must give in to unreasonable demands or risk exposure of his and Karina's secret sex life.

Will Karina and James's love be strong enough to withstand the many obstacles being thrown their way?

Karina continues to give herself space from James because all of this secrecy; especially towards her. She feels he knows everything about her and can ask her anything, she is an open book. Yet he is the exact opposite.
I don't blame her. I liked the stance she took for sure. Although they eventually came to an odd and slightly humorous agreement on how to get him to open up and answer all her questions: each time after they are intimate, she asks questions and he answers.
I do like how their relationship blossomed throughout the entire series. I didn't care for some of the words used or his slapping towards the end of the book. And, I was confused how it blossomed into being in love when it didn't seem they spent the time together intimately (not sexual intimacy) to know each other so well to begin falling in love with the person.
I liked that James challenged Karina, in a good way. He brought her just out of her comfort zone, or completely out at times, and she rose to the challenge. I also appreciated the fact that James never demeaned Karina sexually or as a person. In addition, if she didn't want to do something, he did not push her or guilt her into whatever it was.
Also, they never quite seemed to have the typical cliche "master/dom and/or servant/slave" relationship that is so popularized in the BDSM lifestyle. She did "obey" him but she didn't get a mean or severe punishment where she feared him and simply obeyed out of fear.
All in all, I really liked this series and was sad to hear there was not a fourth. Although, the author ended the series well with no real big loose ends.

I do recommend this book/series, to mature audiences only.

Pride by Rosie Somers REVIEW

Pride

Seventeen-year-old Gabriella Pierce is used to taking care of herself, but she’s about to become responsible for a whole lot more. When she gets a visit from three men claiming to be defenders of fantastical rings imbued with the powers of THE CARDINAL SINS, her life is changed irrevocably.

Gabby is the steward of PRIDE.

To make matters worse, she’s falling hard for fellow steward, Grant Barnett, and he hates her guts. Now Gabby has to learn to protect Pride without letting her feelings for Grant get in the way.

This was a short and quick read. Yet very interesting and captivating from the very beginning. I liked Gabby's character. She was independent and comfortable in her skin. Grant, from how the author describes him, sounds like a real cutie but also a real jerk at times.
All in all, this was a cute and fun read.

I would recommend this book to most people. Go into it with an open mind, and you should enjoy it.

Slow Seduction (Struck by Lightning #2/3) by Cecilia Tan

Slow Seduction (Struck by Lightning, #2)

Unforgettable passion . . .

Two months have passed since Karina's painful departure from James, the mysterious lover who awakened her darkest desires, and she'll do anything-anything-to locate him and win him back. Her search takes her to London, where she finds herself immersed in the world of fine art and forbidden pleasures. And soon, Karina meets another enigmatic man who promises to help her find James . . . for a price.

Unexpected pleasure . . .

Damon George is rich, gorgeous, and a member of a secret society that caters to the sensual thrills of the wealthy and powerful. Though Karina insists her heart will always belong to James, Damon is determined to have her, body and soul. By the time she finds James, Karina has been "trained" to please another. Will James reject her again . . . or find her more irresistible than ever?

So, unlike the first book, there is little, if any similarities to the other trilogy. That said...
Karina has landed in London for an internship job as well as to look for James who disappeared on her after they had sex at the Society soiree. After getting a lead on how to get into the same Society there in London as well as playing Nancy Drew with James' letter to her boss at the Art Gallery, Karina finally tracks him down.
Damon George is supposed to help her not only track him down, but get her and James in the same room so Karina can talk to James and get some much needed answers as well as to find out if Karina and James can work it out or if her and James should walk away from each other. Damon agrees to this, on the flip side, if James turns Karina down, he gets one night with her, doing whatever pleases him. No Limits.
Instead, unbeknown to Karina, Damon is doing everything in his power to sabotage her and her chances.
Karina finally has a moment alone with James after her performance with his glass art installation. After they have their moment together, she learns James was simply trying to give her closure. After a much needed conversation of clarification, all seems to be well between Karina and James. Until she runs into a woman referring to herself as his wife.
James disappears again and Karina heads back home to her mother that is in the hospital.
Karina has decided it was James' turn to find Karina and chase her. He had to fight for her  and she wasn't sure if there was enough love there to continue in a relationship with James.
Only time would tell.

I really enjoyed this second installment and Tan can definitely not be referred to as copycat. This story has definite twists among its plot I did not expect. And yet again, the author answers questions from the previous book, yet leaves us on another cliff hanger.

Slow Surrender (Struck by Lightning, #1)
He pushes her sexual boundaries . . .

From the moment waitress Karina meets him in a New York bar, she knows James is different. Daring. Dominating. Though he hides his true identity from her, the mysterious, wealthy businessman anticipates her every desire and fulfills her secret fantasies. Awakened by his touch, Karina discovers a wild side she hadn't known existed and nothing is off limits.

She aches for more . . .

What begins as an erotic game soon escalates to a power play that blurs the line between pleasure and pain. Even as she capitulates to James' sensual demands, Karina craves more. She wants his heart, his soul. She wants his love . . . and she'll break all the rules to get it.

First of all, like the other trilogy this series is connected to, this trilogy definitely keeps you on your toes. About halfway through the first book, I noticed similarities between this story line and the 50 Shades trilogy. Unlike others, I am not referring to the trilogy or the author a copycat. There are similarities, yes. Such as a rich, dominating, powerful, and attractive male that is wanting the attention of a lower financial class female. Both the females in the 50 Shades trilogy are students. Beyond those major similarities, I simply feel both authors had similar ideas for their characters in their books.
The differences are, the girl in this trilogy is not an "innocent, girl-next-door" type. Also, Karina is in graduate school for art history while Anastasia Steele was in college; but not for art or art history; if I remember correctly, it was for English.
There are also major differences between James from the Struck by Lightening" series (The main male character) and Christian from the 50 Shades trilogy. First, their career choice. James is a twice over artist. He not only does glass art installations, but he also sings. He also does not want to be known. Not for his work, but he doesn't want people to recognize him. Plus, he is an exhibitionist. And for me, one of the biggest differences is, when Karina and James finally have coitus at the end, he leaves and she goes to London to find him. Christian and Ana became intimate their first night. The list does continue, but I think you get the idea.
All in all, there are similarities, of course; but I would not call Cecilia Tan a "Copycat". Aside from noticing the similarities and differences in this first installment, I didn't quite care for the semi-frequent use of two words that were used to describe certain body parts.
I really liked James in this book and slightly understood his paranoia. I also liked that the big basis for James and the Society was honesty. I appreciated his protectiveness over Karina yet he was not overwhelming, it was a nice balance. Plus, they were overwhelmed with each other yet they gave their space and neither was needy. Another nice balance. This book ended very well. It left a little resolve in finding out who James was yet, it left such a cliff hanger!

If you like erotica with a good story, you'll like this. I recommend this to mature audiences only.
