Pamela Aares' USA Today bestselling Tavonesi Series continues with another suspenseful, page-turning and heart-warming novel about the healing power of love.
Reclusive tech billionaire Evan Forbes finds himself lost and lonely in the secretive world he's cloaked around himself. He may have changed the way the world communicates with his innovative, high-tech businesses, but the language of the heart has brought nothing but pain.
When Evan meets the vivacious heiress Coco Tavonesi on a garden tour, she fires a spark of desire he can't resist. Pretending to be an ordinary computer geek, he conceals his true identity and accepts the thirty-dollar an hour job she offers, tracking down a hacker who's stolen her prized nature photographs. After years of hiding his famous name and his own incredible wealth behind a disguise, has he met the woman worth revealing himself to? Can he risk his heart?
Coco doesn't count on falling for the sexy techie, but when she playfully snaps a photo of Evan, his resulting anger triggers fears from her past. What does he have to hide? Is Evan the quirky, sweet geek he seems, or yet another fortune hunter using this chance to get close to her?
When Evan discovers that Coco is being hacked by a high-level genius, he's determined to bring the criminal down. But the hacker accesses Coco's photos of Evan and threatens blackmail and violence, and suddenly the secrets Coco and Evan have kept from one another endanger not only the love blooming between them, but their very lives.
Excerpt:
Drake
followed them through the gate. But to Evan’s relief, he parked the limo about
two hundred yards from the main entrance to the house.
Evan
pulled up near the front door. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d used it.
Maybe the day he’d moved in. The key slid into the lock, and he prayed the
damned thing would work. As they entered the foyer, he suddenly felt
self-conscious.
“I . . . Ah . . . I
haven’t brought in much furniture,” he said as he surveyed the nearly empty
foyer and imagined what the place must look like to her.
She
laughed. “I didn’t come here to evaluate your furniture, Evan.” She wrapped her
arms around his neck, tangling her fingers in his hair. “I came here to do
this.”
There
was a fury to her kiss, an energy that swept into him and screamed yes! Not
breaking the contact of their lips, he scooped her into his arms and carried
her toward the curved staircase.
When
he reached the bottom stair, he broke contact with her lips. And felt like he’d
been unplugged from the source of life itself.
But
he wanted her permission. He wanted her to be sure. If he took her up to his
room, he’d have a hard time letting her leave.
“I
do have a bed,” he said, not knowing any other way to ask.
She
stroked her finger along the edge of his jaw. “I was counting on it. But I can
walk, you know.”
“There
are twenty-four stairs.”
“Ah.
Precise. Then I shall enjoy the journey.”
Her
words supplied the green light he’d sought. She tucked her face to his chest.
His blood pounded so fast that he had to concentrate as he mounted the stairs.
He
kicked open the door to his bedroom and silently thanked Lily for insisting on
shipping him a bed. A nice big bed.
A
bed that had never been occupied by anyone other than him.
The
thought stopped his progress across the room. If this night didn’t go well, if
he screwed up, he was definitely moving to Tibet.
“Evan?”
The
silk of her dress bunched in his hand as he slid Coco to her feet. As if they
had a will of their own, his hands held fast at her waist, holding her close.
“I’m
here.” He hauled in a breath, aware that not only was his heart pounding, but
his erection strained against the waistband of his tux trousers. “All here.” He
wanted to add all yours, but he didn’t want to freak her out.
She
ran her hand under his tux jacket and then lower.
“Yes,
I’d say you’re all here. But I’d better make sure with my own eyes. I’m a
visual creature, as you know.”
What
happened next, he couldn’t have predicted She stepped back and hooked her
thumbs under the lapel of his jacket, slid it from his shoulders and down to
the floor. She tore open the starched shirt, sending the studs flying across
the room to ping as they landed on the marble floor. The tux was coming
off much faster than it had gone on.
