Nicole Graves finds herself in the crosshairs when she reluctantly agrees to babysit a witness in a high-profile rape trial. Mary Ellen Barnes is suing her university’s star quarterback for rape when the authorities won’t act. In the court of public opinion, Mary Ellen appears to be the quintessential, pious, good girl. But her lies and mysterious comings and goings lead Nicole to suspect that she’s not what she seems.

Nicole heard a sound and came in from the balcony in time to see Mary Ellen, now fully dressed, slip out the front door. Nicole ran after her. She couldn’t allow the girl to run off after what she’d said about the hopelessness of her predicament. By the time Nicole got to the elevator bank, it was empty. The girl was already on her way down.

Nicole couldn’t take the stairs; she was on the tenth floor. But the elevator bank had four cars, and luck was with her. Moments later, the door to another elevator opened. When she reached the lobby, she caught sight of Mary Ellen through the window. She had just left the building and was jaywalking across Ocean Avenue toward the beach.

Nicole rushed after her. The wind was picking up, blowing through her jacket. She was halfway across the street, when a car heading south skidded to a stop a few feet away. The driver leaned on his horn and opened his window to scream at her. She ignored him, trying to keep Mary Ellen in sight. The girl seemed to be headed toward the shoreline. When Nicole reached the sand, she started running. She was in good shape, but running on the beach was completely different from a morning jog around the neighborhood. Her shoes sank into the soft surface, making it impossible to gain momentum. Meanwhile, sand leaked into her shoes, chafing her sockless feet.

The beach near the waterline was dark, and Mary Ellen was no longer in sight. Nicole looked desperately around, trying to figure out which way the girl had gone. All at once she stumbled over something lying in her path. As she hit the sand, the figure she’d tripped over slowly sat up, like a zombie in a horror film.

Political Parties

Rachel Magee

Contemporary Sweet Romance

Paperback & ebook, 246 pages

September 25th 2018 by Clean Reads

Planning one amazing party is more complicated than it sounds.

Reece Ryan is known as the best wedding planner in town, but it’s time to take her company to the next level. Getting the contract from a prestigious law firm to plan their upcoming political related events is just the break she needs to prove that she can put together more than just the perfect nuptials. Sure, these events which will receive national coverage might be slightly out of her league, but it’s nothing she can’t handle. Managing the hotshot lawyer the firm has tasked as their liaison for the project is a whole other story.

Griffith Brighton always thought the start of his political career would come from hard work and his brilliant legal mind, not throwing some fancy party. But when the firm’s managing partner asks him to work with the event coordinator to organize a fundraiser dinner for the presidential candidate, he knows it’s the opportunity he’s been waiting for to get in front of some major political players. After years of goal setting and career planning, his future finally seems to be coming together …until two weeks of working with Reece make him reconsider everything he thought to be true about life and falling in love.

Review:
This was such a fun and in-depth read, different from my typical reading choice. The book as a whole was enjoyable but there were moments that I specifically enjoyed; such as the natural blossoming of their romance. It didn't feel fake or forced or rushed. You find yourself cheering for their relationship. However, another fun aspect of this read is Reece with her party planning. You go from party to wedding. It was a fun element to the read that makes the reader feel like they are being able to enjoy the scenes as the characters are. This is one where opposites do attract because they compliment each other. Although there were aspects of this story that were a little predictable, I think that if the author went another route, the reader may not be as happy about the outcome.

Excerpt:

Reece flipped open her leather portfolio containing the details Lester had given her over the phone and reviewed the list of questions she had compiled to get the ball rolling.

“So tell me again what we’re planning,” Bella said, staring at her own portfolio.
“Two events. A small fundraising dinner for about fifty and a presidential campaign rally followed by a gala.” Reece said the words matter-of-factly as if this were the kind of thing she planned all the time. As if meeting the presidential candidate and planning an event that could get national coverage was just another Monday for her.
“And exactly how long do we have to pull this off?” Reece could hear the hesitation in Bella’s voice and tried to counterbalance it with her own cheerful confidence.
“The fundraiser will be this Friday and the presidential stop the following week on Saturday.”
“Riiiight.” Bella’s eyes were wide. “And we think we can do this because…”
Reece brightened her smile. “Because we’re us. And this is what we do.”
Except this wasn’t what they did. When Lester offered to let her handle the next couple of corporate events, she assumed they would be more along the lines of a company Christmas party or fundraising gala. She was not expecting something this big. Or this quick. Reece should have been nervous, but there wasn’t time for that.

About the Author

Rachel wrote her first novel when she was twelve and entered it into a contest for young author/illustrators. Unfortunately, the judges weren’t impressed with her stick figures. So she dropped the dream of becoming a world famous illustrator and stuck to spinning stories. When she’s not busy working on her latest book, she loves to travel with her family and friends. By far, her favorite destination is the beach, which tends to work its way into most of her stories. Between vacations, you can find her at home in The Woodlands, TX with her wonderful husband, their two adventurous kids and a couple of spirited pets, all of whom share Rachel’s love of the ocean. Well, except the cat and dog. They’re both afraid of water. Find out more about what Rachel has been up to at rachelmageebooks.com.

We are thrilled to be revealing the cover for EXQUISITE TASTE by J.D. Hollyfield! EXQUISITE TASTE is a new, hot contemporary romance and will be released on November 19th--be sure to add it to your TBR today!

About EXQUISITE TASTE

He was a dare she couldn’t walk away from.

She was a game he was determined to win.

Jensen Stone was thriving in her first year of college.  So thirsty for success she could already taste the achievements on her lips. Nothing would get in the way of her dreams, not even the social pressures of pledging. Until one night, she finds herself in the lion’s den of sorority row, accepting a dare she knew she couldn’t complete.

Damien Cross was bored.  He no longer craved the dominance and control he had swirling in the palms of his powerful hands. He was determined to walk away from the empire he'd spent the last ten years building. What he didn’t factor in was the unexpected distraction. He might be angry at her inconvenient timing, but the urge to break the new toy dangling in front of him was all consuming. It wouldn’t hurt to play one last time.

One night. His rules.

Will she obey his demands to fulfill a dare?

Or will she realize his dark tastes are anything but exquisite?
