It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!

This past week has been a sad reading week for me. I only finish one book.
I'm still working on The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover (for review/blog tour on the 26th)
I finished A Year With God by R. P. Nettelhorst with review up :)
That's all I did. A pretty slow week for me. I hope this week will be more productive in the reading/reviewing area. At least in the reading area.

This week I plan to finish The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover

I am also going to read Everything I Never Wanted To Be by Dina Kucera ( for review/blog tour on the 23rd)

I want to get at least started on The 19th Element by John L. Betcher ( for review/blog tour on Dec.13)

That's all for the week!

Chicken Soup for the Expectant Mother's Soul

A Year With God by R. P. Nettelhorst Review

God's Words changed history, now let them change you.
Are there any words more powerful than God's? Through His Words, the world came  into creation and all life into being.  God spoke to His first people, Adam and Eve, and He spoke to Noah and Abraham, to Moses, to the kings of Judah and Israel, and to the prophets.
And He speaks to you today.
God's Words are real, and they are full of His Love, wisdom, and direction. A Year With God is a 365-day revelation of God's divine character through His actual words, along with reflections and insights to increase your understanding. You'll discover the context of God's words spoken in the Old Testament- and what they mean for you and your life.
Arranged by topic, A Year With God highlights God's words to His people. In reading what God actually said, you can know what really matters to Him and you. It's a pure, simple and lasting way to connect your heart with God's and become more like Him everyday

Which is what we are to strive to do as Christian. According to His Word.
From beginning to end, this devotional book was thought provoking and educational. Every page had a chunk of scripture with an explanation of the scripture and how to intertwine the scripture into our daily lives. It then was summarized at the end in a few simple to understand and sometimes very though provoking sentences such as, " We can't embrace lies and expect to discern the truth when we here it." (from page 97) I highlighted so many of the pages in this book it's almost as bad as my own Bible!
The only thing I wasn't big on was that the author didn't include both Testaments. But that isn't a big deal for me because on the flip side, that showed just how much there is ans was to learn from the old testament if there was a years worth to learn from it!
I looked forward to reading this devotional book everyday.  I couldn't wait to get back to reading it. Every chance I had my nose was in it and I absolutely love books like that:) I was sad when the book ended and wished there were more days in the year so I had more to read.
I highly recommend  this devotional read. I really enjoyed it and felt blessed to be able to read it and experience it. I can only hope more people will read this and I hope they get as much from it as I did. This is one of those devotionals that I will continue to rave about for a long time.

I received my review copy from BookSneeze.com. I was not required to write a positive review.

Q&A W/Hunter Harrison-The Mend Mark

(I was not the one who asked the questions in this interview)
Do you remember my post on the Mend Mark? This is a fun and informative interview with the inventor of the bracelet and the mission behind the bracelet, Hunter Harrison. Enjoy!

Q&A With Hunter Harrison,
Creator of the Mend Mark

Mend Mark bracelet.jpgQ: How did you arrive at the idea for the Mend Mark? Why a bracelet?

A: I always thought about getting a tattoo. I still haven’t, but tattoo designs frequently cross my mind, and if I ever got one I would want it to be meaningful. On one particular day, I had the idea of getting two circles tattooed on my wrist to resemble a hole. But not just any hole—the hole that killed a king. The more and more I thought about it, the more I came to realize that nowadays EVERYONE has a tattoo and it would almost be rebellious NOT to get one. (I guess you could consider me a reverse rebel.) So I decided to do something a little different, something that would reach many more people than just some ink on my wrist. I took the idea and designed a bracelet instead, and consequently, the Mend Mark idea was born.

Q: At first glance Mend Mark seems like a nebulous name. What does it mean?

A: I’ve always liked the word “mend” and I feel like it’s underused. So it was an easy decision to incorporate that into the name. It fit the product purpose, and since it was representing one of the marks of Jesus, Mend Mark was an obvious choice. Plus it had a nice ring to it and with tattoo roots it seemed natural to call it that. I wanted it to be more than just another bracelet or wristband. I wanted it to represent a movement. So the “Mend Mark” it became.

Mend Mark open package.jpgQ: What are you hoping will be accomplished through the wearing of the Mend Mark bracelet and through the Mend Mark movement?

A: There are three main things I want to be accomplished. First is that I wanted people to remember the sacrifice. I wanted to unite people—Christians (no matter the denomination) and even people of other worldviews—on one common message: LOVE. The love that Christ preached in particular. With so many books out there and theological debates on who’s right and who’s wrong, sometimes we forget the simplicity of Christ’s main message: LOVE. I figured that no matter what one believes, they can’t deny that selfless love can change the world… and sometimes we need a reminder of that. So I coined the phrase “Remember Love” to be printed on the bracelet. The second thing is that I wanted people to emulate the emotion. I wanted it to require the wearer of the product to engage in conversation about the love of Christ (and hopefully show that love to others) instead of just letting the product talk for them. I felt that if this was done properly it could force people into intentional situations where they were able to demonstrate their faith. If I was a non-believer and I saw someone wearing an obvious Christian product, I doubt I would ask that person about it because I would already know what they were going to say. But, if I saw this, I would want to know what it was. It sparks curiosity… and in turn that curiosity may open some doors for people to share the love of Christ with others. Finally, I wanted it to inspire people to change the world around them. I decided to find a cause to support through the sales of the bracelet. There was no reason for me to keep all the profits for myself. I wanted to be able to give back and share the proceeds somehow. I researched and prayed and petitioned God on what ministry to support and God led me to Living Water International. I knew I wanted to help fight malnourishment in one way or another and providing “Living Water” seemed to fit the purpose of the product—using “love” to mend. That’s what it’s all about and this product allows that to happen on a global scale.

Q: Where did the inspiration to create the Mend Mark come from?

A: My mother was the most influential person in my life. She raised me on her own, even homeschooled me in high school, and I think that extra time with her really impacted me. She passed away from cancer in 2007, but she always told me I would do great things. My wife, Morgan, has been extremely instrumental in encouraging me to take those words from my mom to heart and make them a reality. Morgan motivates me like no one else can and has been a tremendous source of love and support throughout the entire process.

Then my work in banking inspired me. All day long I am helping people achieve their dreams getting businesses and ideas started. I wanted to get out there and start doing something myself. But I wanted it to be meaningful. Since my son was born two years ago, he’s given me an added motivation to do something bigger than myself, something that will somehow leave a legacy behind.

Q: The Mend Mark is certainly growing as a movement. It’s even been worn by celebrities. What’s next for the Mend Mark?

A: The Mend Mark isn’t the first idea I’ve tried to get off the ground. It definitely won’t be the last either. By far, it’s been the most fun and the most successful, and the one I’ve been most passionate about. I’m currently working on additional product designs as well as T-shirts that will go along with the original Mend Mark purpose. The future is bright and I can’t wait to see where God takes it.

Musing Monday

(Sorry I'm late this week...been busy. But better late than never, right?

This weeks Musing Question is:
Do you have any special reading that you do as it gets closer to Christmas? If so, tell us about it! And, if not,

I sit with the younger kids in the family on Christmas eve and read "the Christmas story" from the Bible. And sometimes the kids want me to sit and read with them. But besides that, nope.Though, right now I am reading as  book for review called The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover. Does that count? lol

New Beginnings Wednesdays 11/3/10

To remind you of the way this works, here’s how to play:
First — post your list of New Years’ Resolutions in a post at your blog (or in the comments here, if you don’t have a blog).
Second — every week, on Wednesday, write a new post about how you’re doing with each of your goals … you’ll have to list them, again, each week, as people won’t remember what you’re working towards, otherwise. Be brief in your updates, as there may be several blogs to visit! ((come give a quick update here at Should Be Reading, if you don’t have a blog)).
Third — after you’ve written your update, come back to Should Be Reading, and share your link so that we –the other New Beginnings participants– can stop by your blog and encourage you!
Important! … It would be absolutely great if you could visit at least ONE other participant’s blog  on Wednesdays and leave a comment on their post to share some encouragement for their efforts! Show your support! That’s what this event is all about — standing by each other to finally reach our goals!
Here is mine:
Read the Bible in a year...
I'm not reading my actual Bible since the devotional book A Year With God (by R. P. Nettelhorst) has a few paragraphs of  Scriptures in it.

Lose 10-15 lbs...
:((( I've gone up in weight. I went to get my pap test dealt with and flu shot on Monday, and the scale went up...and up to a number I didn't want:( I'm trying to stay optomistic:/

Tone Up...
I was slacking again but I started again and have been keeping up.

Get my family (my hubby and I) completely out of debt...
That is still a work in progress. Obviously. I hope to feel some kind of financial freedom...soon. Staying optimistic.

Finish college and get my teaching/education degree..
I don't even know what the point of me putting this part up when it isn't going to be changing anytime soon. So you may not see this section next week.

This fun weekly meme is hosted by MizB of Should be reading, go on...give it a try!

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions...
• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you'll read next?

I am currently reading:

The 19th Element by John L. Betcher ( I am reading this for review as well as being the blog tour host on the 13th of December, so make sure to come by and check it out!)

The Christmas Chronicles, a novel by Tim Slover ( I am reviewing this as well as being the blog tour host on the 26th of this month, so make sure to mark your calendars;)

Besides that, I am going to keep quiet about what I am going to read next because that seems to e always changing on me!

Teaser Tuesday 11/02/10

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Well, first off, per usual, my reading for the week changed a little bit.  In stead of Permanent Obscurity, Vexation, and A Year With God, I going to read this week:

The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover ( for review, I am also a blog tour host for this on the 26th of this month)

The 19th Element by John L. Betcher ( for review, I am also a blog tour host on 13th of December)

I am reading Permanent Obscurity by Deolores Santana -as told by Richard Perez - ( for review)

A Year With God by R. P. Nettelhorst ( for review)

So that means I have four (4) teasers this week:

God does not change. Love always motivates His actions. How we feel about what God does is up to us.
Page 51, from day 31 of A Year With God by R. P. Nettelhorst

"Huh?"
"You are a twat," she said flatly.
"Pardon me , Missy?" I said, flashing some attitude.
Finally her whole face lit up.
And, actually, it was nice to see her laugh. Even if it was at my own expense.
Page 171 from Permanent Obscurity by Delores Santana -as told by Richard Perez-

Tuesday's discovery of a dead body washed up on the Mississippi River shore just north of Red Wing had turned the small town into a press Mecca. Television and print media crews from the Twin Cities and Rochester converged on the murder scene, each vying for the gruesome, and intention-grabbing , visuals possible.
Page 1 from The 19th Element by John L. Betcher

I could clearly hear the sound, even through the raucous wind that had suddenly kicked up. But it didn't make any sense, and I couldn't see what was making it. I had thought I was aline on that wintry mountain.

So this is my plan unless my book Everything I Never Wanted To Be by Dina Kucera. If that comes in tomorrow, then all books will be put on hold  so I can read it and have my review up for that by tomorrow night.  I am a blog tour host for her book on the 2nd of this month:) Otherwise I am kinda freakin out here.... *little drops of sweat on forehead*

This past week I started A Year With God by R. P Nettelhorst (a devotional) . Very good so far. I should have this done and review up this week. (for review)

I am continuing on Vexation by Elicia Clegg.  (for review)

I put down Permanent Obscurity by Dolores Santana (as told by Richard Perez) because I got tired of the constant profanity but I picked it back up tonight. I want to finish it by the end of the week.

This week, I will finish up those three reads HOPEFULLY! Then I am going to get started on:
The Life Book by Carl Blunt
Soul to Soul Parenting by Annie Burnside, M Ed.

Also, Hubby wants to get me a kindle because I have slightly complained about the fact that I can use a laptop in the car on longer trips but I can't read in a car and so such a mean temptation to have a good book in my bag and not be able to read it! But, I am kind of worried that that won't work either. Has anyone had a problem reading in the car but can use a kindle or something of that nature in the car?

So this is my plan unless my book Everything I Never Wanted To Be by Dina Kucera. If that comes in tomorrow, then all books will be put on hold  so I can read it and have my review up for that by tomorrow night.  I am a blog tour host for her book on the 2nd of this month:) Otherwise I am kinda freakin out here.... *little drops of sweat on forehead*

Cabin by the Lake by Judean Etheredge

Booking Through Thursday 10/28/10

(Hosted by Booking Through Thursday)

In honor of Halloween this weekend...
What reading skeletons do you have in your closet? Books you’d be ashamed to let people know you love? Addiction to the worst kind of (fill in cheesy genre here)? Your old collection of Bobbsey Twin Mysteries lovingly stored behind your “grown-up” books? You get the picture … come on, confess!

I really don't think I have any. But that also depends on who you are or ask. I still have my collection of Nancy Drew and love them. I got my niece into them:) Maybe that's where my love of mystery/suspense comes from...? And Hubby can't give me a hard time over them because he likes the Hardy Boys. I even have the computer games of Nancy Drew that my mother started me on. Those are addicting. So I don't think I have any "skeletons" in my book closet lol.

Here is mine:
Read the Bible in a year...
Well, lol...I am on another break from my T.D. Jakes Devotional since I am reviewing A Year With God by R. P. Nettelhorst. So my daily Bible reading is still going on, just doing it with different curriculum.

Lose 10-15 lbs...
I am at the same weight!! What in the world is going on??

 Tone Up...
I've completely stopped working out. Been busy and lazy. But I am starting up again tonight.

Get my family (my hubby and I) completely out of debt...
That is still a work in progress. Obviously. I hope to feel some kind of financial freedom...soon. Staying optimistic.
Finish college and get my teaching/education degree..
I need to get our ducks in a row first so I will worry about that when we are more financially secure and ready.

WWW Wednesday 10/27/10

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions... * What are you currently reading?
* What did you recently finish reading?
* What do you think you'll read next?

Here are my Current Reads:

A Year with God by R. P. Nettlehorst ( for review)
I started on this last night. Hopefully I'll have it finished by...Sunday?

Permanent Obscurity by Dolores Santana (as told by Richard Perez)
{ for review} This book is not for everyone, just let me tell you that. I'm about a third or so through it.

Vexation by Elicia Clegg (for review)
I am over halfway through it.

I Recently Finished:

Chiczofrenia: crazy is an artform by Dr. Laina Turner_molaski

Next, I am going to Read:
The Chronicles of Christmas by Tim Slover
Everything I Never Wanted To Be by Dina Kucera

Teaser Tuesday 10/26/10

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
As I said yesterday, "if my book comes in the mail this week, I will be adding another book to my reads this week."
Well it came yesterday: A Year with God by R. P. Nettlehorst. So I have added it as my read for the week. I hope that it doesn't take me any longer than two weeks to get it read. It isn't quite 400 pages so I figure if I read 25 pages at least I can get it read no problem.
So here are my three teasers:
A Year with God by R. P. Nettlehorst:
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Ever since Adam and Eve's disobedience,  human beings have begun their relationship with God through fear, thanks to their guilty consciences.
Page 20, from Day 1; entitled He Did It!

Permanent Obscurity by Dolores Santana (as told by Richard Perez):
But then I just felt numb. "Right now I'm tired of typing." Which was the truth.
"Time to log off."
And I did. Abruptly.
F him.
Page 148

Vexation by Elicia Clegg:
After Lane was completely sure that Devin was gone, he continued his journey down one more street. A new kind of leer was on his face as he saw Dawn sitting in her car, looking angry; she always looked angry, though this was always what made her so dammed easy to manipulate.

Chiczofrenia: Crazy is an art form by Dr. Laina Turner-Molaski Tour & Review

A little bit about Dr. Laina Turner-Molaski:

Laina Turner-Molaski is a business woman, mom, author, Professor, and a major supporter of shopping. She has an undying love for shoes and coffee, which is why she created her main character and alter-ego Presley Thurman.
With a lot of letters after her name and a ton of student loan debt, she is always working to pay the bills. While she enjoys her day job, her passion is writing, and she uses a lot of company time writing her fiction or working on her social website for women, Chiczofrenic.com. She is hoping to sell her book before she gets fired from her day job for goofing off.
Laina is currently living in Indiana, with her family, and is always writing something, whether it’s blogs, articles, business journals and books or ideas for her next novel. She is continuously doing what she loves which is writing or drinking coffee.

To learn more about this crazy woman, go to her site!

To check out other bloggers connecting with her on this book, click here.

Now, as for my thoughts on the book; Her experiences and what she has gone through, are sad. But she is able to explain it is such a way that makes you laugh. She encourages you to embrace who you are. To stop trying to be someone your not, stop trying to be someone else for someone. You will drive yourself crazy (haha) doing that. Her book is funny, she feels like a friend when you reading her book. She is down to earth and real.  Dr. Laina Turner-Molaski sent me the first chapter of her book in an email first, and reading that first chapter, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I loved it. You will notice how she went through a lot of what your going through, so it's like having someone to talk to. And I love that about this book. Would I recommend this book? Oh yea.

You can Follow her on facebook:

She also has a really cool site based on her book, Chicozfrenia; go check it out!
